New Mexico taking precautions for tuberculosis outbreak - about 100 people exposed

The New Mexico Department of Health is looking for individuals who might have been involved with the Clovis Community Choir and the Clovis Lion’s Club between October and April, according to Diana Fortune, tuberculosis program manager for NMDH.

On Tuesday morning, the New Mexico Department of Health issued a news release on its website with information regarding a TB exposure in Curry County, New Mexico, which is adjacent to the Texas border.

At least 100 individuals were exposed, which means they’re at risk, Fortune said. Testing to confirm if they have tuberculosis began Tuesday, she said.

Tuberculosis is an airborne illness, Fortune added.
