Anti-Semitic graffiti painted in Borough Park

Eyewitness News
BOROUGH PARK (WABC) -- Members of a Brooklyn community want to know who spray painted disturbing comments throughout the area.

The swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases were plastered on at least 15 cars and 4 buildings, even a school.

Now the NYPD's hate crimes unit is investigating the vandalism.

Police received the report of the graffiti in Borough Park at about 8:30 Saturday night.

YWN has just learned that the NYPD has arrested 4 individuals from Williamsburg’s Chasidic community, who are connected to the beating of a black man last December. Our sources confirm that additional arrests are expected. They were arrested by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit.

As YWN reported in December, Taj Patterson, 22, says he was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Avenue. Paterson said he remembers the ringleader. “There was a crowd around him, cheering him on and getting him rowdy, and he would grab me and push me against the wall.”

Evelyn Keys, an MTA bus driver, came to Paterson’s rescue as she was rounding the corner of Flushing Ave. and Spencer St. when she saw the horrific attack unfold before her eyes, according to the Daily News. “I get out of the bus and all these men were standing up straight around him,” Keys Told the Daily News. “Taj is laying down on his back. I went up to him and he was in so much pain. He says, ‘I can’t see . . . I can’t breathe.’ ”

Acre resident Hassan Sobach became the latest victim of a "price tag" attack Saturday, when car was vandalized at a parking lot near Nahal Hashofet, in the north of Israel. The vehicle's tires were punctured and graffitied with the words "price tag" and a Star of David. Sobach called the police, who have begun an investigation.

"I came with my family to tour the area," Sobach told Ynet. "We had a good time, but the end of the day was very disappointing. The situation is bad; we hear about price tags on a daily basis and there is no one to stop the perpetrators."

The incident is the latest in a series of similar attacks over recent weeks that have spread into areas inside the Green Line. On Tuesday, the tires of dozens of vehicles were slashed in the Arab town of Fureidis, and a Star of David and the writing 'Close mosques, not yeshivot' was spray-painted on the wall of the town's mosque.

Thirty-five olive trees were destroyed near the West Bank settlement of Bat Ayin on Saturday, in another in a recent wave of anti-Arab hate crimes across the country. Graffiti reading "Arabs are thieves" and "price tag" were found at the scene.

According to Palestinian sources, such vandalism has become routine. Just a few days ago 58 olive trees were several damaged in Ras Karkar, northwest of Ramallah.
