Oliver Koppell launches Democratic primary challenge to state Sen. Jeff Klein

It's official: Former Bronx Councilman Oliver Koppell will take on state Sen. Jeff Klein in a Democratic primary.

Koppell -- whose intentions were previously reported by the Daily News -- went straight for the incumbent's throat in a campaign statement Monday morning, calling him a betrayer for aligning his breakaway Independent Democratic Conference with the Senate GOP.

“The moment Jeff Klein put Republicans in charge of the State Senate, he broke his word and betrayed the voters who elected him. We deserve better,” Koppell said.
