State's highest court says public pension funds can't withhold retirees' names

The state’s highest court ruled Tuesday that state and city pension systems were wrong to withhold the names of retirees who are receiving benefits from public employee pension funds.

Handing a victory to the Empire Center for New York State Policy, the Court of Appeals ruled the state and city teachers retirement systems must disclose the names of its retirees. The court, in a unanimous decision, ruled only the addresses of retirees could be withheld from the public.
