NY unemployment falls to five-plus year low

D&C

The percentage of New Yorkers out of work and looking for jobs fell in April to the lowest it’s been in more than five years.

The state unemployment rate in April was 6.7 percent, according to new state Labor Department monthly figures. That was an improvement of more than a percentage point from April 2013’s 7.8 percent, and the lowest the state unemployment rate has been since December 2008. The U.S. saw an even steeper unemployment rate decline in April, to 6.3 percent, from 7.5 percent a year earlier.
