Former assemblyman Stevenson gets 3 years

Former Assemblyman Eric Stevenson received a sentence on Wednesday of three years in prison for taking more than $20,000 in bribes. The money came fom four businessmen in exchange for official acts, including drafting, proposing, and agreeing to enact legislation that favored the bribers’ business interests.

The businessmen, who sought to operate and construct adult day care centers in the Bronx, paid the Bronx Democrat to sponsor and introduce legislation that would declare a three-year moratorium on the construction of adult day care centers in New York City. By exempting their current centers, Stevenson’s acts would give the bribers a monopoly in adult day care centers in the area.
