CUNY students eligible for $800 scholarships revived in city budget

ERIN DURKIN

CUNY students who graduate from city high schools and keep a B average will be able to get scholarships of $800 a year under a program created by the new city budget.

The budget provides $11.1 million for the grants, known as the CUNY Merit-Based Scholarship Program.

A similar program, dubbed the Peter F. Vallone Scholarship for the former Council speaker, was scrapped in 2011, in what his son Peter Vallone Jr. charged was political retaliation for his clashes with former Speaker Christine Quinn.
