It's Diaz vs. Diaz in South Bronx stop-and-frisk fight

DENIS SLATTERY

It’s Rebel vs. Ruben and Diaz vs. Diaz as the debate over the NYPD’s use of stop-and-frisk rages on in the South Bronx.

A heated war of words over the policy has developed between a hip hop duo and a state senator with a penchant for speaking his mind.

Rebel Diaz, a politically minded rap group, has gone on the attack after state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. snapped off a screed last week linking a recent surge in shootings to the decrease in stops. The NYPD says its use of the controversial street interrogations is down 90%.

“While there are those who will argue against Stop and Frisk, statistics show that crime was better controlled and the loss of life was decreased,” Diaz (D-Longwood) wrote. “Bullets are flying, and children are dying.”
