In the wake of the death of a Staten Island man in police custody, Mayor Bill de Blasio said late Friday that he has postponed leaving on his planned trip to Italy until Saturday. He had been scheduled to leave late Friday.
Press secretary Phil Walzak sent out a statement saying the mayor will delay his trip "in order to attend to city business."
After a late afternoon press conference during which de Blasio and police commissioner Bill Bratton discussed the death of 43-year-old Eric Garner, the mayor, paper and pen in hand, could be seen in the courtyard of City Hall, pacing back and forth, talking on his cellphone. An aide and his security detail stood nearby.
At about 7:15 p.m., de Blasio re-entered City Hall to a waiting group of reporters.

(7,784 posts)cold blooded murder in broad daylight on a city street in front of a lot of witnesses. Those cops should be charged with murder, nothing less. It's a disgrace.
