Woolf to face Democratic primary challenge in congressional bid

MAURY THOMPSON

Aaron Woolf, the Democratic party’s endorsed candidate in the 21st Congressional District, will face a primary challenge.

Steven Burke, a town councilman in Macomb, in St. Lawrence County, on Monday announced he is entering the race for the Democratic nomination, saying “experience and ideas” are essential.

“The seat is too important to have a novice run for experience sake,” he said in a press release, referring to Woolf, a filmmaker from Elizabethtown who is making his first bid for elected office.

Democratic chairmen from the 12 counties in the 21st District unanimously endorsed Woolf on Feb. 12, but as of Monday, Woolf had not yet made any public appearances and has done few media interviews.
