Court Rulings OK Five-Borough Taxi Plan, Street Hail App

Two separate court rulings Thursday have presented a victory for the Bloomberg administration in its push to expand taxi service across the five boroughs.

The first decision came down from the New York State Court of Appeals, which overturned a lower court ruling that put the city's ambitious Five-Borough Taxi Plan on hold.

The ruling paves the way for the city to issue up to 18,000 "hail licenses" over the next three years for livery drivers who operate north of 96th Street in Manhattan as well as Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.

It also allows for the sale of of 2,000 medallions for wheelchair accessible yellow cabs.
