AARP wants utility consumer champion in the budget

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist, Staff Writer

AARP members rallied at the Capitol Monday in support of legislation that would establish an independent champion within state government for utility customers that they say would balance the playing field and help protect them from rising bills.

The advocacy group for older, retired Americans — many of them on fixed incomes — wants the issue settled within the context of next year’s state budget, which must be in place by Monday.
