Senate approves bill allowing towns to set their own speed limits

Robert Harding

Legislation approved Tuesday by the New York State Senate would allow towns to bypass the state Department of Transportation and set local speed limits.

The bill, S1356, is sponsored by state Sen. Betty Little. The Senate passed the measure by a vote of 61-0. Cayuga County's three state senators, John DeFrancisco, R-Syracuse, Michael Nozzolio, R-Fayette, and Jim Seward, R-Milford, voted for the legislation. Nozzolio is listed as one of the bill's cosponsors.
