More Politifact: Thousands of dead people are not registered to vote in North Carolina

RALEIGH -- An email circulating in North Carolina claims there are thousands of registered voters in the state who are more than 110 years old.

"PROOF!! North Carolina has the world's oldest voters!" reads the subject line.

The implication is it is voter fraud.

Politifact did some digging and found the claim is false.

A chain email has begun circulating in North Carolina that claims widespread irregularities in the state’s voter rolls.

The email caught our attention with its subject line, "PROOF !! North Carolina has the world's oldest voters !"

It says there are thousands of registered voters in North Carolina who are 110 or more years old, including one person who is a whopping 219 years old.

Though tongue-in-cheek, the implication is clear – that many dead people are still actively registered, perhaps allowing others to commit voter fraud by casting ballots in their names.

"Perhaps it is something in the (North) Carolina water," the email begins. "I doubt there is another state in the Union who could claim, as NC does, to have 5,376 voters 110 years old, or older. One current voter was born in 1798, making him a rather hefty 219 years old, thereby nearly doubling the age of the oldest person on earth."

What's the point of the post? You should have clarified your intentions in the OP. It's still a signal boost of bad information when posted without comment by you. Give yourself a break and don't forget not everyone is as informed as you seem to be. A little back story next time? I'm certainly not a fan of signal boosting fake news. How is this fake news? If you click on the PolitifactNC link it will take you into another rabbit hole filled with exciting new words from an article posted yesterday!

Of course I'll mention Pope, Civitas, and the NCGOP all in one breath since they are the ones who are more than likely behind this BS chain mail.

I don't think I have to explain myself to anyone for posting a link to a story that is a day old.
