'Shocking': Ohio State doc abused 177, officials were aware
COLUMBUS, OHIO
A now-dead Ohio State team doctor sexually abused at least 177 male students from the 1970s through the 1990s, and numerous university officials got wind of what was going on over the years but did little or nothing to stop him, according to a report released by the school Friday. Dr. Richard Strauss groped or ogled young men while treating athletes from at least 16 sports and working at the student health center and his off-campus clinic, investigators from a law firm hired by the university found. "We are so sorry that this happened," Ohio State President Michael Drake said at a news conference, using words like "shocking," ''horrifying" and "heartbreaking" to describe the findings. He said there was a "consistent institutional failure" at Ohio State, the nation's third-largest university, with nearly 65,000 students and a half-million living alumni. The school "fell short of its responsibility to its students, and that's regrettable and inexcusable." Read more: https://www.star-telegram.com/news/nation-world/national/article230519494.html

3. Current WVU Pres Gordon Gee
Who according to wiki was OSU pres, twice, Sept 90- Jan 98 & Oct 07-June 13.
His comment source-https://www.wdtv.com/content/news/Gordan-Gee-responds-to-sexual-abuse-allegations--510080541.html COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Former Ohio State University president says he has no memory of a former athletic team doctor or any complaints about him sexually abusing male students. A report released Friday says the now-dead doctor accused of sexually abusing more than 150 male students pleaded with university administrators in the late 1990s to keep his job near the end. The report says Dr. Richard Strauss sent letters to administrators, including then-university President Gordon Gee (GEE’) as abuse allegations mounted. Gee is now the president at West Virginia University. He says he told investigators at Ohio State that he had no recollection of Strauss. Gee says he has always taken allegations brought to his attention seriously. 1 more paragraph at source. |
