Gov. Kate Brown nets $250,000 contribution from Michael Bloomberg

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has hauled in a $250,000 campaign contribution from New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg, the biggest single contribution she’s received in recent years.

The donation comes about two months after Brown, a Democrat, publicly announced her support for three new pieces of gun control legislation, including a ban of high-capacity ammunition magazines, that she hopes to pass through the Oregon Legislature in 2017.

At the time, Brown also signed an executive order requiring Oregon State Police to retain firearm transaction data for longer and for law enforcement agencies to share information about some instances in which prohibited individuals try to buy guns.

Bloomberg, a former New York City mayor who made his fortune by founding and expanding the Bloomberg News business and data service, has donated heavily to pro-gun control candidates in recent years, both personally and through his political action committee, Everytown for Gun Safety.

I've been supporting her monetarily but often can't give as much as I'd like. This doesn't win her the election, but makes me feel less guilty about when I fall short of the mark in the weeks to come.
