Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf's campaign didn't need his money to raise $11M

Gov. Tom Wolf's campaign says he had $11 million in his campaign account at the end of 2017, more than any other governor has raised in the year before seeking re-election, according to the Associated Press.

Wolf didn't donate to his own campaign, as he did when he first ran for election in 2014, according to the report. His $10 million contribution at the time helped make the Pennsylvania governor's race the second most-expensive that year according to the National Institute on Money in State Politics.

Wolf spent about $4.2 million more in 2014 than incumbent Republican Gov. Tom Corbett, who raised $36.9 million, according to the institute. Wolf was an owner of a kitchen cabinet design and distribution firm.

Now Wolf faces candidates in the Republican primary race with money of their own to spend.

No where in the article is his political affiliation mentioned.

Thomas Westerman Wolf[1] (born November 17, 1948) is an American businessman and politician who is the 47th and current Governor of Pennsylvania, since taking office on January 20, 2015. A Democrat, he defeated Republican incumbent Tom Corbett in the 2014 gubernatorial election. Previously, Wolf served as the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue from April 2007 until November 2008 and as an executive in his family-owned business.

This article was taken from TribLive which is the online blog for the Tribune Review. Tribune Review is the ultra-rightwing newspaper that was owned by the deceased RWNJ Richard Mellon Scaife. Tribune Review is the "Fox News" of western Pennsylvania, meaning terrible journalism and even worse politics.

County. They managed to turn a once blue county blood red. Scaife would never allow a Democrat to be pictured on the front page of any newspaper he owned.

I’m in the Southeast and I’ve never been to Pennsylvania. I do, however, know of deceased, RWNB Richard Mellon Scaife,

Consider the source, indeed. Here in Georgia, the newspapers are not generally not quite that extremely right wing.

Thank you so much for the explanation.

...since you don't live in Western PA.

We have a good, moderate (occasionally liberal) newspaper in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. But most other newspapers here have been ruined by the Tribune Review (i.e. bought up and turned conservative) so they're not worth reading or quoting.

Unfortunately the website TribLive is free (and uselesss to us) while the Post Gazette's website (awesome usually) will limit you to a certain number of visits per month and then ask you to buy a subscription.
