(12,319 posts)"Saccones campaign pledges have come under increasing scrutiny as he has moved to run for federal office. Last year, during his aborted Senate bid, Allentown newspaper the Morning Call reported that despite his signature ethics reform bill banning lobbyist-funded meals for lawmakers, Saccone and his wife regularly dined with lobbyists while in Harrisburg, with lobbyists picking up the tab."
"Questioned about the behavior, Saccone admitted to the paper that lobbyists routinely buy him breakfast, lunch, and dinner."
I take part in it. You know how everything in the capitol is done on relationships, he said. He didnt want to be a martyr just by doing it myself, he added. That doesnt change the system.
"But the lobbyist meals have apparently not discouraged Saccone from collecting a hefty taxpayer-funded per diem."

He didn't want to be a "martyr". That's rich.
PA Democrat
(13,225 posts)three meals a day is double-dipping and grossly unethical.
Oh but we wouldn't want Rick to be a "martyr" by not cheating the taxpayer!!!!!!

(12,319 posts)Unethical seems to be an asset in Trump's America.

(15,286 posts)this is exactly the kind of "little stuff" that can sink a campaign. There's already a lot of anger toward the salary, benefits and perks like per diem and mileage the legislators get for what's not even a full time job. It's going to make voters mad when they see someone who they think is already overpaid with generous benefits sleeping, working a crossword puzzle, etc instead of focusing on the job at hand.
It's a lot like Santorum saying he was too busy for jury duty or him having his kids enrolled in cyber school without the family paying any tuition. Maybe it was ticky-tacky stuff to media talking heads, but people related to it and didn't like it.
