(32,639 posts)The Pittsburgh Post Gazette has mostly left-leaning editorial staff (when they aren't straight middle of the road) however the Block family is always putting their thumb on the scale. For example the PPG editorial staff almost staged a walkout when the Blocks wanted to endorse Trump for President in 2016. They ended up endorsing neither candidate before the election and ran a bogus column about how both candidates were "good and bad."
In Pittsburgh we have to live with this because the only other daily paper is the Tribune Review, the rag that was formerly owned by Scaif. (The source of many rightwing nightmares that I won't go into now.)
I have to say I'm not surprised that the PPG endorsed Saccone, but if Lamb wins they'll probably walk it back like they usually do.

(15,286 posts)are rw nut jobs. The rest of the family is pretty liberal, like their father/uncle/grandfather. When the PG and Blade were forced to run the racist editorial, the entire Block family except Jr and Alan wrote and signed a letter to the editor denouncing it.

(611 posts)been able to buy a PG for several years here. Their distribution area has shrunk dramatically. I would imagine that they will not last too much longer, as the present generation does not know what it is to read a physical newspaper.

(32,639 posts)I live in the city limits but I never buy a printed copy of the paper. I get it every day by email, and it's rather convenient. Inexpensive, on time, and I can archive the PDF version on my computer. No dead trees!

(28,394 posts)That's just plain stupid. We don't get the P-G, but I still buy the Sunday edition (mainly for the coupons.) It's pitiful how the Sunday paper has shrunk. I remember what a great newspaper The Press was. Sad.

(53 posts)my subscription, I was asked why. All I said was "Rick Saccone." I could tell by the way she said "oh" that she understood. Guess she's handled a few cancellations today....
