Pittsburgh has discovered a fourth rogue alligator
A two-foot young alligator was discovered on Friday, around 4 a.m., in the parking lot of a Pittsburgh-area grocery, making it the fourth alligator captured in the area since May, according to the Tribune Review. “He’s so friendly,” Paul McIntyre, from Big Daddy Wildlife, told the outlet. “Somebody had him as a pet, couldn’t take care of him and let him go.”
Gators can be legally bought and owned, but McIntyre says an owner probably won’t come forward because, “They’re scared to get in trouble.”
The first gator, who measured three feet, was found in mid-May, near a park.
The second, a five-foot-long creature named Chomp, escaped from his home, AP reports. He was found on June 6, and his owner is facing 33 counts of neglect in addition to single counts of animal cruelty and recklessly endangering another person, according to the outlet. Authorities took 32 animals from the home — where dead animals were also found — including several other reptiles: three additional alligators, three snakes, iguanas, and a lizard.
The third gator, just 2½ feet, was found on a porch on June 8.
