Related: About this forumState of PA pays Romney Bundler's Lobbying firm to Publicize Voter ID Law
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/07/pennsylvania_voter_id_chris_bravacos_bravo_group_romney_ad.php?ref=fpbThe man behind a company that got a big state contract to educate Pennsylvania voters on the commonwealths restrictive new voter ID law is a fundraiser for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Ads created by his company, a Republican lobbying group, encourage Pennsylvania residents to obtain state-issued photo identification so they dont miss out on their right to vote.
Republican lobbyist Chris Bravacos, who according to the Center For Responsive Politics has thus far bundled $30,000 for Romneys campaign, is president and CEO of the Bravo Group, which received a $249,660 government contract from Republican Gov. Tom Corbetts administration for the ad campaign.

The fact that a Republican lobbying group is in charge of educating those most likely to not have an ID Pennsylvanias poor, minority, elderly (and mostly Democratic) voters about changes to the election law isnt likely to ease complaints that the law is a partisan voter suppression effort, especially after a top state Republican bragged that the change would help Romney win the Keystone state.
While the Justice Department has challenged voter ID laws in South Carolina and Texas it hasnt done so in Pennsylvania because it isnt covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, a provision which requires certain states with a history of racial discrimination to have changes to their voting laws precleared by federal authorities. While civil rights groups have sued over Pennsylvanias law on behalf of clients including a 93-year-old woman who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a challenge from DOJs Civil Rights Division likely couldnt come until after the 2012 election.

(18,541 posts)2. I think the state of PA needs to keep Cobett busy answering questions about what he knew....
and what he covered up in the Jerry Sandusky case. It's the only way to keep him from further destroying the state, and ensuring Pennsylvanians never, ever elect another Republican governor. He needs to be destroyed with the facts of what he's done. Fucking scumbag. I was considering moving back to PA until he came along.
I've seen some scumbags in my time, but this new crop of teabagger governors and congressmen is blowing my mind.

(53,475 posts)3. Considering my Governor is...
... Scott Walker and my State Senator is Glen Grothmann, I feel your pain.

How very typical.
The news of this practice should be spread far and wide, because it is absolutely descpicable.
On edit: IMHO, you should post this in General Discussion for all to see!
