PA HD-14 R incumbent to retire
My R state representative, Jim Marshall, announced he won't run for re-election in 2024. It's a bit surprising as he's been easily reelected since winning the seat in 2006, but the word among his constituents has always been that he'd serve long enough to be vested in the very generous legislative pension. I guess he's reached the point of getting that nice retirement.
The state legislative districts were redrawn in 2020 to conform with the state constitution that calls for compact, contiguous districts that undid a lot of the gerrymandering Rs had done over the last 10+ years. HD-14 became more compact and slightly bluer although it's still a R district. However, Marshall got a lot of Dem support because he's a decent person and didn't always march in lockstep with his fellow Rs, but also has a reputation of being kind of a bump on a log.
It will be interesting to see if the local Dems, or perhaps the DLCC, can find a good, credible candidate to compete for this soon to be open seat.
