Conservation Districts Must Have Pissed Off the Frackers - Corbett to Eliminate Their State Funding

http://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/jp/corbett-budget-plan-strips-funds-for-conservation-districts/

Each county has a Conservation District that works to make sure that development occurs in a way that avoids soil erosion and the pollution of creeks by sediment. They also work on various issues to protect water quality, including working with farmers and promoting thicker vegetation along creeks. They each have a volunteer board that oversees the professional staff.

Corbett's new budget proposes to eliminate all of their state funding in the state budget. Most conservation districts have already suffered reductions in staff and reductions in county funding.

I guess some of them must have gotten in the way of some of One-Term-Tommy's fracker friends.

The Conservation Districts that are in shale country will get some new money from the shale impact fees, but that doesn't help the other counties.

Absolutely mind-boggling.

Yep, you're right, JP. No one can dare get in the way of the frackers.

and yet, he isn't looking at many of the wastes of money---like the number of legislators or the daily allowances that they have, without any receipts to show that they need that much money for each day they "work".

Apparently, you nailed it. The frackers must have issues with the Conservation Districts. Maybe if this goes through, we can have a volunteer staff.....and we can all volunteer. They would welcome the professions back in no time.

Sometimes the "volunteers" are better educated than the "professionals".
