Discussion about a recent Reuters investigative report about the number of publicly funded charter schools that erect barriers to admission for many types of students - such as students with less involved parents, who do not speak English, or who have weak writing skills.

The study also included some charter schools in Philadelphia, as described in the article.

I would write a 15 page paper on how the War On Terror was used to galvanize public opinion... and railroad the American people into supporting the longest and most expensive U.S. Military intervention on behalf of the big oil companies ever.. in the history of the United States.

Remember Colin Powell SWORE he had witnessed WMD's in Iraq? Connie Rice threatened us with "A mushroom cloud within 20 minutes" if we didn't fall in line.... and G. W. Bush became known as "SMIRK BOY" because of his deceit & contempt for all Americans.

2. In partial defense of Powell, I would note that he did refuse to say what he was fed

The lowpoint of Powell's career was the UN speech. However, I believe he thought he was telling the truth. He spent a few days at CIA hq going over the things he was being told to say, and refused to say half of them. However, he still unfortunately believed some crap that was fed to him.

Much of the problem revolved around Cheney's own personal internal intelligence cabal, which was willing to believe what was fed to them by some very questionable exiles who wanted to take power in Iraq. Also, Cheney's crew believed mis-information that Iraqi scientists were feeding Saddam, because those scientists had to lie about their achievements to keep their jobs and their lives.

3. Is there anyone here who did not believe this could and would happen?

Didn't we already know that this was occurring, whether they try to make it sound like it doesn't happen or not? This HAD to happen. The business model for charter schools makes this almost a requirement.

And still, charter schools are not keeping up with their promises of better quality education. I just wish that no public money was going to them....fine, if you want to pay for a private school. There have been private schools as long as I have known. But private can't be public...or certainly shouldn't be.
