State police raid New Kensington club

New Kensington club busted for 'illegal casino gambling operation'

Police said a search warrant was served at the Spartaco Sporting Club 2240 Constitution Blvd, New Kensington, PA 15068
"An undercover investigation revealed that there was an interior connection from the liquor-licensed portion of the club to an illegal casino operation in the basement," police said in a written statement. "As a result of this investigation, 19 gambling devices, gambling documents and $548 were seized. Criminal charges are pending."

Citations will also be issued for serving visibly intoxicated patrons and non-club members, police said.

I lived in New Kensington in the 1960s and raids were fairly common.
The state cops had to come in because the city was a mafia town.
When the state cops came in they'd notify the local cops to do traffic control on nearby streets.

The clubs would reopen a few days later.
