S.C. lagging in national vaccination rates, many in Upstate hesitant to get COVID vaccine

Talking about getting vaccinated may be what convinces people who are hesitant to get one, which is important because South Carolina is lagging national vaccination rates, said the state's assistant epidemiologist.
It's even more important for people in the Upstate to share their vaccination experiences because the Upstate is lagging behind the South Carolina rates of vaccination, said Dr. Jane Kelly, the epidemiologist.
"Vaccines are what is going to take us out of the pandemic," she said.

More than half of the nation's adults 18 and up have received at least one vaccine, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number is 40% for those 16 and older in South Carolina, according to South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control figures.
