Over 2,000 march in support of women's rights in Knoxville's Market Square
Thousands of protesters assembled in Knoxvilles Market Square on Saturday to protest the inauguration of President Donald Trump and show support for groups that they say have been targeted by the new presidents rhetoric.
The event was organized by Caroline Mann, Ellen Bebb and Marta Murrell after seeing a number of similar events being planned in other cities. According to Mann, it was a Facebook exchange that prompted her to get the ball rolling.
Ellen posted on Facebook, Why doesnt Knoxville have a march? and that next day is when we started talking about what to do, Mann said.
Over 2,000 people braved the cold and the rain to gather downtown and in conjunction with hundreds of other marches around the world. Mann said that the turnout in spite of the weather was fantastic.
