About 75 protest 'blacklist' at Memphis City Hall
Katherine Hanson was arrested after she chained herself to a barrel at a recent protest at the Valero refinery. Adam White has taken part in several local protests of late, but has never been arrested for it.
Both were surprised when they found out over the weekend that they had been placed on a list of 81 names that require a police escort when visiting City Hall.
"Shock and laughter," said Hanson, 32, when she found out through social media that her name was on the list.
Added White, 37, who found out when his phone blew up with texts and social-media alerts: "It's a very mixed bag of feelings from pride in sharing in the community of folks doing this work to fear and not knowing how I was surveilled."
