Just in: Missing baby cobra found alive; reptile in police custody

This probably belongs in the Offbeat forum, but I want my fellow Texans to feel a bit safer when they go to sleep at night. Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs cobras bite!

A baby sunset monocle cobra's month of freedom ended Wednesday night with the capture of the missing snake, which is alive and well and "currently incarcerated at the Brownwood Police Department," Police Chief Mike Corley informed the media via email Thursday morning.

"On 02-15-2012 at approximately 8:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to (the 500 block of Seventh) reference an animal call," Corley's email stated, quoting from an end-of-shift report.

"Officers were advised the sunset monocle cobra had been captured. Officers arrived to find the cobra had its head attached to a large glue trap. Animal Control arrived and took custody of the cobra and it is currently incarcerated at the Brownwood Police Department. The cobra appeared to have thrived well outside of its captivity"

The snake had eluded searchers after it escaped from its cage in mid-January in the same home in which it was found Wednesday night. The reptile had been described as being 12 to 16 inches long and whitish-pink in color.

But I do have a healthy fear for the critters, I have been in Texas less than 10 years and I still freak out when I hear about a dog bitten by snake etc... in the outer suburbs where I live it's not unheard of.
