South Texas candidate accused of money laundering

VICTORIA — A South Texas constable candidate has been jailed on money laundering charges after officers found more than $1 million in his car during a traffic stop.

Robert "Bobby" Maldonado of Mercedes was fired in 1994 as a Texas trooper.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger told The McAllen Monitor that Maldonado refused an inspection of his car Monday near Victoria. A law enforcement dog alerted officers, who found luggage with more than 100 bundles of cash.

An arrest report indicates the money was wrapped in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.

My understanding is that the stash is money we can keep if it is drug money.

I think some of Bobby's business associates are going to be upset with him.

Her husband got a job in Atlanta during the summer so it looks like she will be selling the house later in the year.

BTW, you might also want to check this post about the film festival in Victoria.

drive into a smaller town to work. It's a quiet life, but we prefer it to living in Victoria proper.
