Man who scuffled naked with Dallas police dies hours after his arrest
An Irving man died Saturday following a bizarre incident in a bar in which he wrestled naked with police, was arrested and then hospitalized. Authorities, who used a Taser on him in the scuffle, said they believe he was also stabbed in the bar before police arrived.
It’s unclear which, if any, of those things killed him. Investigators are treating the case as a death in police custody, but said the cause hasn’t been determined. Authorities did say that the man appeared to be high on PCP at the time of his arrest.
The sequence of events happened on the 3600 block of Colonial Avenue in South Dallas. Officers were called to a bar there at around 1:30 a.m. for a report of an armed encounter. They arrived to find a large crowd outside and a naked man inside “who appeared to be on drugs,” said Lt. Max Geron.
“The subject pulled away from and shoved officers before officers tried using a Taser on the subject,” Geron said. “The Taser had no apparent effect and officers wrestled with the man until they were able to handcuff him.”
