Democratic Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro says hell boycott Buc-ees after the popular roadside megastore chain endorsed right-wing Republican Dan Patrick for lieutenant governor.
Wont gas up there anymore since they support a fear mongering immigrant basher, Castro, D-San Antonio, wrote on Twitter on Monday.
Wonder how Bucees patrons in Freeport, Lake Jackson stores feel abt their endrsmnt of DP who spoke abt immigrants bringing diseases to TX, Castro added.
Patrick was the top vote-getter in last Tuesdays primary, and he is favored to defeat incumbent David Dewhurst in a runoff for the GOP nomination. The winner will face Democrat Leticia Van de Putte, who is Latina, in November.

(145,176 posts)I have seen Bucees on the highway but have avoided them. Now, I have a reason to continue to avoid these stores.

(29,414 posts)Never stopped there as there's a little Citgo further down the road I like instead. The Buckees/Stuckeys always looks rather crowded, but that may just be for the dozen or so gas pumps, too.

(112,162 posts)Yes, there is a Buc-ees in Giddings. I never stopped in there either, but it certainly seemed popular to the people filling up their pickups. It seems like a redneck haven.

It is also across the highway from a Wal-Mart, so I guess they get all the same shoppers...
There is a halfway decent Chinese place back in that shopping center, though. It makes for a nice break from the drive sometimes

You know this brings up a point, why do so many Republicans have such a dislike for David Dewhurst? He's always struck me as plenty mean in a conservative way. The only good I can see coming out of this is that Van de Putte may have a decent shot.

(145,176 posts)SAN ANTONIO Texas roadside megastore Buc-ee's found itself in between two political powerhouses Tuesday after the chain's owners offered their support to state Sen. Dan Patrick.
Following a photo and announcement of the owners' support on Facebook Monday, Congressman Joaquin Castro said he would no longer shop at Buc-ee's since they support a fear mongering immigrant basher.
I am disappointed to learn that a popular and well-respected retailer would lend its corporate brand to a candidate for statewide office who has built his career around dividing Texans and bashing immigrants, solely for his own political gain, Castro said in a written statement
