Rick Perry crushes (on) California

Gov. Perry has completed his latest trip to California hoping to persuade businesses there that Texas is the place they ought to be. The three-day trip was bracketed by a radio and TV ad buy paid for by Americans for Economic Freedom, a non-profit group dedicated to promoting what might be called Perrynomics. AEF also paid for the governor's travel.

The ad script reads in part:

A year ago, I was here, in California, encouraging companies to look to Texas for expansion and relocation.

Over the past year and a half, more than 50 California companies have announced plans to expand or relocate in Texas, creating more than 14,000 jobs. Now, I love California and I want folks to succeed here, but you've got the highest income and capital gains tax rates in the nation.

So he loves California and wants folks to succeed there. OK. So maybe that's just part of the sales patter, designed to soften the mark up. But then at 4:25 in the morning Wednesday, Debra J. Saunders, who blogs as the "token conservative" at the San Francisco Chronicle, posts the following, under the headline: Texas Gov. Rick Perry hearts California:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is coming to Silicon Valley Wednesday in another trek to poach California businesses. When we spoke over the phone Tuesday, it was clear the Lone State Republican was enjoying his visit. When I suggested California has better weather then Texas, Perry responded, “Head to head, day to day, you would not get me quibbling about that.”

He added, “The views, the weather, and I might add, the wine, nobody can compete with California.”

It's a long article, but it's also worth reading at http://www.statesman.com/weblogs/first-reading/2014/mar/20/rick-perry-crushes-california/ .

Four years ago my company was courted by Washington State and we moved. It appears CA is not interested in holding on very tight.
