Empower Texans PAC gets Ken Paxton’s campaign $1 million loan

Ken Paxton’s campaign for attorney general has been boosted by a $1 million loan guaranteed by a staunchly conservative political group.

Midland oilman Tim Dunn secured the loan for the committee, Empower Texans PAC, before the money was placed in Paxton’s campaign account. It’s an unusual arrangement.

Dunn is board chairman of Empower Texans, a group that promotes limited government and cuts in spending.

According to campaign disclosure reports on file with the Texas Ethics Commission, Paxton got the loan May 15, just as he was gearing up for a final television advertising campaign before the May 27 GOP runoff.
