Related: About this forumPolice reports detail South Texas appellate judge's arrest
Bad day.
Good day.
McALLEN - A 13th Court of Appeals judge apparently attempted to avoid arrest on suspicion of drunken driving Saturday by flashing her badge at a McAllen policeman and saying he was ruining her life and career, according to police records.
Officer Jesus Regalado arrested Justice Nora L. Longoria (D), of Edinburg, anyway and she was booked on driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, according to police records that detail the Saturday morning arrest. Driving while intoxicated is considered judicial misconduct by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and grounds for public or private sanction, depending on the circumstances.
Longoria, 49, didnt respond to requests for comment Monday or Tuesday morning at the 13th Court of Appeals or the telephone number listed on jail booking records. Harlingen-based KGBT-TV first reported the incident.
The patrolman stopped Longoria at 1:21 a.m. Saturday after observing her silver convertible speeding north on 23rd Street near the intersection with Freddy Gonzalez.

I know the area well.

Usually, people have driven drunk for years before they finally get popped for it.
Alcohol is a hell of a drug once it takes over.

Around Nolana. People rarely drive across the border to go drinking any more, especially in a flashy car. Thesedays people park and walk across to Progreso to get smashed, eat, shop, and buy pharmaceuticals during the afternoon, maybe with a little light dental work on the side.
