Former CPRIT official pleads not guilty to state felony charge, trial set for Aug. 17

AUSTIN – An Aug. 17 trial date was set Friday for Jerald “Jerry” Cobbs after he pleaded not guilty to a state felony corruption charge stemming from his time as a high-ranking official in Texas’ cancer-fighting agency.

At a brief hearing, Travis County District Court Judge Clifford Brown told Cobbs, the former chief commercialization officer of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, that he could face five to 99 years in prison if convicted.
