600 students evacuated from San Antonio elementary school after smoke fills cafeteria
SAN ANTONIO — About 600 students were evacuated from Leon Valley Elementary School Friday morning after smoke began accumulating in the school cafeteria.
North Side Independent School District spokesman Pacual Gonzalez said the students vacated the building and were relocated to the gym a short time later.
"Smoke in the cafeteria and an adjacent classroom forced an evacuation of Leon Valley ES. All children and staff are safe.They will re-enter the school when given the all clear by the fire department," the school district posted on its Facebook around 8:30 a.m.
The Leon Valley Fire Department cleared the scene and all students returned to their classes around 10 a.m.
