Corrupt Texas politicians could lose state pension

Corrupt elected officials would no longer be entitled to their state pensions under a bill unanimously approved by the House today.

The bill, by Rep. Kenneth Sheets, R-Dallas, would strip the benefit from those convicted of crimes related to their elected office. Such offenses would include embezzlement, bribery, perjury, tampering with a government record and others.

“If we’re violating the public’s trust, then we don’t deserve the benefits of the office,” Sheets said.

The House is expected to give its final approval of the bill soon. But it faces a challenge in the Senate.

It would be fun seeing them justify why crooks should get big pensions funded by the people's taxes.
