Lubbock native Natalie Maines daughter of Lloyd Maines, niece of Kenny, Donnie and Steve Maines will join her musical relatives on the West Texas Walk of Fame Thursday. She and playwright-actress Jo Harvey Allen officially will be inducted at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Lubbock High School, 2004 19th St.
The many honors Natalie Maines has achieved as lead vocalist for the Dixie Chicks include 13 Grammy Awards and 10 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards.
The trio also was the source of controversy in 2003 when Natalie informed a London audience that Dixie Chicks members were not in favor of a war (with Iraq) and ashamed the president of the United States (then George W. Bush) is from Texas.
She would explain that the trio supports American troops, and added, My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view.

Note: I don't want Natalie to suffer such a fate. She is a brave strong woman and we need more like her.
