Black Lives Matter movement storms San Antonio City Hall

Local activists made a last push Wednesday night to convince the San Antonio City Council to reject the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the San Antonio Police Officers Association.

Starting with a rally of more than 45 people in front of City Hall, and speaking in chambers, citizens against the contract praised Council members Rey Saldaña and Ron Nirenburg, who have publicly said they will vote no.

Mayor Ivy Taylor supports the mediated contract that ended two years of acrimonious negotiations.

Groups such as Black Lives Matter, Mothers of Black Boys, and the Esparanza Peace and Justice Center took time to outline the problems they believe the contract presents, such as limiting how far back the police chief or city can introduce evidence of prior disciplinary actions.
