Woman sues Baylor after tumble into Brazos River outside McLane Stadium

WACO -- A Baylor University football fan who stumbled down steps outside McLane Stadium and tumbled into the Brazos River last year says the school owes her more than $1 million in damages.

Marilyn Mayfield, of Nacogdoches, alleges in her lawsuit, filed in Waco’s 170th State District Court, that Baylor officials were negligent by failing to provide a safe venue for people attending events at its riverfront stadium.

Baylor spokeswoman Lori Fogleman declined comment Wednesday, saying school officials do not discuss pending litigation.

Houston attorney Marcus R. Spagnoletti, who represents the 63-year-old mother of three, said Mayfield is a Baylor alumna who enjoyed going to games at the new stadium.
