Record numbers of Texans have already cast their votes for the Nov. 8 election, including about half of the voters in Travis and Williamson counties.
More than 4 million Texans well over the 2008 early voting record of 3.5 million had voted in the states 15 largest counties by the end of the day Thursday, according to the most recent data available from the Texas secretary of state office. That reflects a 41 percent turnout of the registered voters in those counties.
The turnout in Travis County was about 49.5 percent by press time Friday evening, with 360,879 voters having cast their ballots since the start of early voting Oct. 24. Those figures didnt include the last few hours of early voting and the mail-in ballots that would be tallied at days end. Polls were slated to close at 7 p.m.
Still, Travis County had already surpassed its early voting turnout of 37.4 percent in 2012 and was approaching its 2008 early voting turnout of 49.6 percent.
