Hearne school trustee faces lottery fraud charge
A Hearne school trustee was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge after officials said she stole $11,790 worth of scratch-off tickets from a Bryan convenience store where she worked.
Over a four-month period ending in December 2015, Samantha Salazar, 36, is accused of taking 52 packages containing tickets that cost various amount, according to court documents. She's accused of stealing them from the Stripes convenience store off North James Earl Rudder Freeway in Bryan.
When confronted about the thefts by a regional manager, she admitted to taking the lottery tickets, saying she was ill and needed the money, the arrest affidavit states.
She agreed to pay the company back the value of the tickets if officials would not pursue charges, the documents state. Salazar gave management a cashier's check for the full amount, according to the report that states an offense report was filed with Bryan police.
