Jury selection in custody case slowed by some dim views of Alex Jones

A Travis County jury of seven women and six men — 12 jurors and one alternate — was seated Monday evening to hear the child custody case of Alex Jones and his ex-wife Kelly Jones after a selection process slowed by dim views of the provocative broadcaster held by a significant minority of the jury pool.

Opening arguments in the trail will begin Tuesday morning.

Twenty of the 60 or so people in the Travis County jury pool for the child custody trial of Alex Jones and his ex-wife, Kelly, said they have a negative impression of the broadcaster and political personality, with 13 of those potential jurors saying they would find it hard to be fair to the man whose lawyer described him to them as a “provocateur.”

Houston attorney Randall Wilhite said his client takes what some would “say are outrageous positions” and that what he described as his “performance art” is “powerful and aggressive and strong and takes strident positions on controversial issues.”

Most states don't have jury trials in family law matters, such as child custody.
