Neurosurgeon who maimed patient in Dallas was 'acting as a serial killer'

Though Christopher Duntsch has been sentenced to life in prison for deliberately maiming a patient, prosecutors say he is guilty of much more.

"He was acting as a serial killer," Dallas County Assistant District Attorney Michelle Shughart told Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen in an interview set to air Wednesday.

Duntsch, who practiced medicine at hospitals in Dallas and Collin counties, was convicted in February on one count of injury to an elderly individual.

The 13-day Dallas County trial centered on patient Mary Efurd, who was 74 in 2012 when she underwent surgery with Duntsch. She lost a third of her blood and the full use of her legs, but survived.
