High school football is king in Texas, and the latest proof is the states newest, most expensive stadium.
This week, the Katy Independent School District dedicated its new Legacy Stadium, a new mega-facility that ranks as the most expensive high school football stadium in the country.
With a price tag of just over $70 million, it seats 12,000 people and has a two-story field house. The video replay board cost $2 million.
Some Katy residents are thrilled, like Chris Harris.
Katy is all about our school, our community, and this is going to serve Katy. Its going to serve this area of Texas for my entire lifetime and I couldnt be more prouder of it, he told ABC Thirteen.

Katy has grown so that it has seven high schools in the districts. It was somewhat manageable with six schools even though they had to schedule games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. With the addition of a seventh school and with all seven schools in the same district that complicated the logistics to the point that they were having to schedule two games on Saturday. Playing football during the afternoon in September and even October can be brutal when the temperature is pushing into the upper 90s, especially since Katy has the same humidity problems as Houston.
