Lupe Valdez, Andrew White pitch change in West Texas Democratic Party forum

SAN ANGELO -- Deep in the heart of Republican country, the two leading Democratic contenders for governor on Monday cast themselves as the antidote to incumbent Greg Abbott and his policies.

"I want to bring back sanity and reason and bring hope to Texas," Houston businessman Andrew White said in his opening statement. "We live in Trump's prison now and I'm trying to break Texas out."

Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez said, "we have to stop the foolishness and the hate and the bickering."

"We have to start working together," she said in her opening remarks. "You have to serve in a way that does not harm. You have to bring solutions, not harm."
