UT stabbing suspect to plead not guilty because of insanity
AUSTIN — The attorneys for a student from Killeen accused of a 2017 knife attack at the University of Texas have filed court papers that say he will plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
Kendrex White was a biology student at UT when he killed one and injured three others in an attack on May 1. He graduated from Killeen High School in 2014, suffered from mental health troubles and had been involuntarily committed for treatment in another city.
It was determined at a court hearing Thursday for White that a psychiatrist will be appointed for a second assessment of his mental health. Prosecutors will use the findings to determine if they will present the murder case to a jury.
Paperwork was filed earlier in the week explaining his plea intentions.
White's stabbings left fellow student Harrison Brown dead and three others wounded.
