Beto O'Rourke campaigns in Victoria

U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke campaigned with hundreds of people in Victoria on Thursday, eliciting a sizable turnout for a Democratic candidate in the majority Republican district, according to longtime political observers.

O’Rourke is hoping to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, the Republican incumbent, in one of the most closely watched Senate races in the country.

The El Paso congressman discussed Victoria’s recovery from Hurricane Harvey, family separations at the U.S. border and other issues at a town hall at the Victoria Educational Gardens.

In addition to his standard stump speech, the Democratic politician spoke about people he had met while campaigning in Victoria.
