Note: This article was published on August 16 in the Killeen Daily Herald. I'm posting it since it includes several paragraphs covering Beto's interactions with audience. It should take about 3-4 minutes to read in its entirety.
LAMPASAS Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Beto ORourke, D-El Paso, held a packed town hall meeting at the Hostess House at Hancock Springs in Lampasas Thursday afternoon. The event followed similar over-capacity events in Temple earlier Thursday and in Waco Wednesday.
ORourke faced a crowd limited by the fire marshal, with a line out front, and standing crowds along the sides of the hall. Citizens endured overflow parking. Members of the Lampasas Democratic Party, which sponsored the event, said they had never seen such crowds for a political event in Lampasas County.
An estimated 175 people filled the hall. Party members and the public brought food, snacks, tea and lemonade. The hall, filled to capacity, made both Beto and his listeners sweat heavily.
If youre a Republican and youre here, youre in the right place, he told the crowd. If youre a Democrat, youre in the right place. If youre an independent, youre in the right place.

(11,885 posts)And huge numbers of people are learning he is the real deal now, and Cruz, well they're tired of all his lying , and his pathetic voting record against the people. They're running from Cruz , especially after he voted for the tax scam enriching the wealthiest by robbing health care from the poor and the middle class. People also know they are trying to destroy Social Security now, Beto isn't. Beto will win this Nov. , and we'll be rid of another corrupt lying KGOP republican.

(129,519 posts)I can see why the crowds are there to see him. He has that "spark" of personality, a sort of umami-equivalent that successful politicos need to have to move the masses.

(10,082 posts)Beto signs are everywhere in my area, but it's a blue city. He will need Democrats and Independents to come out in droves to vote for him if he is to overcome the Republican gerrymandering of this state. We have a good candidate against my member of Congress, but she has virtually no chance of winning because there simply are not enough Democrats and Independents in the district. The rural Republicans always choose the winner. For her to winand Betowe need Republicans to stay home and not vote. Im hoping that happens because Abbott is in no danger of losing the governors race so there will be no urgency to go vote for him.

(2,443 posts)Even in the outlying rural areas, it's Beto, Beto, Beto. Still have not seen a single Cruz sign anywhere in the county or surrounding counties. I even saw one yard in College Station that had a sign, in addition to the Beto sign, that said, "Yeah! We're Democrats!"
